The presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Dr Edward Mahama, says he will give Ghanaians gold coins if he wins the December 7 elections.

According to him, minting gold coins and sharing them among Ghanaians will help boost Ghanaians gold refineries.

Dr Mahama, who was speaking at the Ist IEA Presidential Debate held on Tuesday in Accra, said the coin would be named "Yaa Asantewaa".

The five-time presidential candidate said Ghanaians can travel outside the country with the coins in their pockets and exchange them for money.

He also said he would ensure that every Ghanaian child gets chocolate drinks every day, as part of efforts to boost cocoa processing in the country.

Dr Mahama also condemned the culture of corruption which he said had overwhelmed the country.

Without mentioning president Mahama by name, the PNC leader condemned what he called the president's tendency to reward ministers who "chop" public funds by moving them to the Flagstaff House.

Dr Mahama vowed to close what he called the "loopholes" through which public officials steal public money.
