Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu is through to the men’s 100m semifinals at the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

Saminu produced a brilliant run in Heat 7, clocking 10.09 seconds to place second and seal automatic qualification.

The performance continues his fine form, having also reached the semifinals at last year’s Olympic Games.

Speaking to Sporty FM after his race, the Ghanaian speedster expressed his ambitions for the competition.

“The goal is to reach the final,” Saminu said. “To come through that tough field wasn’t easy, but I am happy with my performance today.”

However, Benjamin Azamati fell short of joining his compatriot in the semifinals.

He recorded a sixth-place finish in Heat 5, with a time of 10.30 seconds despite a solid start.

"There’s nothing to describe it, to be honest with you. After finally ending up here, I have been very confident. I have run under more stress than this; I’ve been to Europe, and even leading up to here, I have run 10:02 or 10:05s about a month ago,” Azamati stated after the race.

Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo won the heat in 10.07 seconds, with De Grasse and Lindsey taking the remaining qualifying places, Lindsey finishing third in 10.19 seconds.

The result brings an early end to Azamati’s campaign at the championship.
