The Black Queens defeated Egypt 3-0 in the first leg of their 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier on Thursday in Ismailia.

Forward Doris Boaduwaa opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, capitalizing on a well-worked team move to give Ghana a deserved lead before halftime. The Egyptians saw red on 52 minutes when Habiba Essam Mohammed make a nasty tackle on Grace Asantewaa.

Substitute Mary Amponsah doubled the advantage in the 85th minute with a composed finish after coming off the bench to make an impact.

Midfielder Grace Asantewaa sealed the emphatic win with a stunning strike deep into stoppage time (90+3), putting Ghana in a strong position ahead of the return leg. The team showed tactical discipline, creativity, and resilience throughout the match, dominating possession and limiting Egypt’s chances.

The result gives the Black Queens a huge advantage heading into the second leg in Accra, where they will look to complete the job and book their place at the 2026 WAFCON.
