Ghana and Newcastle winger Christian Atsu is ruled out of the remainder of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after sustaining a muscular injury.

The 27-year-old was replaced by Samuel Owusu in the 15th minute of the game against the Indomitable Lions, which his side drew for the second successive game in the ongoing tournament.

He underwent medical tests on Sunday to understand the extent of his injury and results which were released on Monday showed that he can’t continue in the tournament.

The Newcastle United player will thus depart Ghana camp in Egypt for England to undergo treatments, according to officials.

Ghana will face Guinea Bissau in a must-win clash today that will determine the Stars’ fate in the competition, following a slow start marked by two draws, against Benin and Cameroon.

The last time the Black Stars failed to make it out of the group stages of the African Cup Nations was in 2006 in the same country Egypt.
