Ghanaian boxer, Michael Ayitey Okine, popularly known as Ayitey Powers has denied rumours put out by some local bloggers that he is stranded in the United Kingdom.

The boxer told Mike 2 on Adom Entertainment Hall that he doesn’t understand why bloggers would make such allegations against him because this is not his first time of re-locating to the UK.

He explained that he had been a British-based boxer before so he could never be stranded in the UK.

According to him, he currently lives in his sister’s house in London and is doing very well.  "It makes no sense for anyone to suggest that I am stranded in London," he said.

The bloggers also alleged that Ayitey Powers, who is in the UK for two separate bouts later this year, now works as a security guard.

But the boxer debunked that also, saying "Tweaaa...I have a great personality, why should I be stranded and guard someone’s property - HH in my sister’s residence".

Powers also confirmed the bout between him and English cruiserweight boxer Mark Allen at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London.

This will be Powers’ first international bout since losing to local compatriot Bukom Banku last year in Kumasi.

The bout with Allen was billed for Friday, January 22, 2016 but has still not come on, and the delay may be the reason bloggers have concluded that Powers is stranded.

But he explained that prior to that fight, he will be fighting American Daniel Mendes in a preparatory bout on March 12, 2016 before meeting Allen.

“Mark is one of the best in the cruiserweight division. I need to be fully fit to meet and beat him and I hope my fight with Mendes will bring me to the level to face Mark," he said.

He urged Ghanaians to pray for him instead of spreading a false rumour that he is stranded.
