Black Princesses edge South Africa to reach final round of U-20 World Cup qualifiers

Priscilla Mensah’s second-half strike fired Ghana’s Black Princesses into the fourth round of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers on Saturday.

Ghana went into the game at the back of a 2-2 aggregate after drawing with South Africa at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana had great goal opportunities in the early minutes but were saved by the host's great goalkeeping. Precious Asante came close right before half-time, but her effort was parried away to safety.

Mary Amponsah was injured after half-time and was replaced by Priscilla Mensah.

Jessica's solo run from the wings met Priscilla, who slotted home in the bottom left corner to give Ghana the lead in the 63rd minute.

South Africa came close in the 78th minute but were denied by Jenna, who protected Ghana's lead.

Ghana protected their lead till the end of the whistle to progress to the fourth round of the U20 Women's World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana is looking to book their eighth consecutive appearance at the biennial tournament scheduled to be played in Poland in September.
