Carlo Ancelotti is set to sign a new four-year contract with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), keeping him as head coach of the nation through to 2030.

The Athletic reported in December that Ancelotti was in advanced talks to extend his deal beyond this summer’s World Cup.

The paperwork for the deal has not yet been finalised but it is now seen as a formality that Ancelotti will agree the long-term deal.

Ancelotti replaced Dorival Junior as Brazil head coach in May, leaving Real Madrid after a four-year second spell at the club in which he won La Liga twice and the Champions League on three occasions.

The Italian, who is Brazil’s first ever foreign coach, took charge of the team’s final four games of CONMEBOL’s World Cup qualifying stage. He oversaw wins against Chile and Paraguay, a draw with Ecuador and a defeat against Bolivia as Brazil secured an appearance at the tournament for the 23rd time.

Since then, Brazil have played four friendlies, beating South Korea and Senegal, drawing with Tunisia and losing to Japan.

The Brazil job is Ancelotti’s first international head coaching role in a 31-year managerial career that began in Serie B with Reggiana in 1995. He has managed Parma, Juventus, Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Madrid, Bayern Munich, Napoli and Everton and has won six league titles and five Champions Leagues.

Brazil will be based in Morristown, New Jersey during the World Cup and train at the Red Bull Performance Center, a yet-to-open facility owned by MLS’ New York Red Bulls.

They will begin their World Cup campaign on June 13 against Morocco at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey before taking on Haiti at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania six days later. Ancelotti’s side will complete their group stage against Scotland at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida on June 24.
