The CAF Champions League is regarded as the UEFA Champions League of Africa with top clubs in Africa battling it out to win the continent’s most coveted prize.

East Africa region is still waiting for one of their own clubs to be crowned champions of the continent finest club competition. The closest the region has come is runner-up positions in 1972 and 1991 by Ugandan clubs Simba FC and SC Villa respectively.

Here are the ten most successful clubs in the competition from the rest of the African continent.

10. Asante Kotoko SC - Ghana

The Ghanaian giant has won the CAF Champions league twice (1970, 1983) as well as being the most club to come second in 5 different times (1967, 1971, 1973, 1982, 1993)

9. Enyimba International - Nigeria

The Aba Warriors come 9th in the list with 4 International cups won between 2003 & 2005 (CAF Champions league 2003 & 2004 plus 2 Super Cups 2004 & 2005).Related image

8. Espérance de Tunis - Tunisia

The most successful team in Tunisia has 6 African cups in its cabinet (2 CAF Champions league and 1 of each of the following: CAF Super Cup, CAF Cup, CAF Cup Winners` Cup, and Afro-Asian Club championship).

7. JS Kabylie - Algeria

The Canaries (nickname) own 7 African cups: 2 CAF Champions league titles (1981, 1990), 3 Cup Winners' Cups, 1 Super Cup and 1 CAF Cup.

6. Hafia Football Club- Guinea

The Guinean giants (record holder for domestic league titles) has won the CAF Champions league 3 times (1972, 75 & 77).Related image

5. Canon Yaoundé- Cameroon

The team that dominated the 70s with 10 domestic trophies between 1970 & 1980 has won 4 international trophies during the same period with 3 CAF Champions leagues and 1 Cup Winners` Cup in 1971, 1978, 1980 & 1979 respectively.Related image

4. Raja Casablanca - Morocco

The 'Greens' has won CAF Champions league 3 times (1989, 1997, 1999) in addition to a single win in each of CAF Cup, Afro-Asian Cup and Super Cup, making them 6 titles for the Moroccan giants.

7 international trophies make TP Mazembe (formerly known as Englebert) the third on the list. Mazembe (record holder for domestic league titles with 14 Linafoot cups) has 4 CAF Champions league titles (1967, 1968, 2009, 2010), one Cup Winners' Cup and 2 Super Cups.Related image
