Asante Kotoko head coach, Karim Zito, is not holding back after his team secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Kwara United in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie, ensuring a 5-3 aggregate win.
The Ghanaian giants have progressed to the next stage of the competition after a hard-fought battle at the M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium on Sunday.
The match was a tense encounter, with Hubert Gyau delivering the only goal of the game in the second half, sealing Kotoko’s qualification after a thrilling 4-3 first-leg win in Accra.
The result came despite Kwara United’s coach, Sanni Tunde, confidently vowing to overturn the deficit following their loss in Ghana.
After the final whistle, Zito did not mince his words when addressing the media, taking a direct jab at Sanni Tunde, who had been vocal about his team’s chances before the match.
“Kwara United’s coach, who doesn’t even have a license, was talking nonsense when I beat him in Ghana,” Zito said, referencing Tunde’s earlier comments about turning the tie around. “I taught him sense by beating him again today,” he added, further dismissing Tunde’s pre-match predictions.
Zito’s words were a clear response to Tunde’s earlier brashness, proving that the Porcupine Warriors head coach is not only focused on advancing in the competition but also on maintaining a competitive edge in the mental side of the game.
Asante Kotoko, two-time winners of the CAF Champions League, now turn their attention to the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup. They will face a daunting task in the second round as they prepare to meet Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club.
The first leg will be held in Ghana, with the return fixture scheduled in Casablanca in October.
