Despite Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his first goal for Juventus in Seria A, the match against Sassuolo might get remembered because of Douglas Costa.

In the dying minutes of the game, Costa got himself involved in a disgraceful act and earned him a red card.

The Brazilian winger might not get away with a red card only. He is likely to face a long-term ban. In the stoppage time, Costa elbowed, headbutted and spit in the face of Federico Di Francesco.

According to the reports, he is likely to get banned for three months which could see him missing Juventus’ clash with Serie A title rivals, Napoli on 29th September.

Right after the end of the match, Costa apologized to everyone for his actions on his Instagram.

“I would like to apologise to all of Juventus fans for this misleading reaction in today’s game. I also apologise to my teammates, who are always with me in good times and bad. And I admit I was ugly, I am aware, and I apologise to everyone for it. I make it clear that this isolated attitude does not match what I have always shown in my career.”

Meanwhile, Juventus manager, Massimiliano Allegri didn’t like the act of his player and insisted on things like this should never happen.

“Maybe he was irritated at a foul before. But it doesn’t matter, because this absolutely must not happen. The one thing we must avoid doing is falling for provocation. We could have scored a third goal, but instead, we started to play as individuals. We tried to dribble past everyone. This wound up the opposition, who then reacted badly and you get to situations like Douglas Costa.”
