FIFA has imposed a transfer ban on Hearts of Oak after the club failed to pay $150,000 owed to their former technical director, Rene Hiddink.
The sanction follows the club’s inability to meet a 90-day deadline set by FIFA to settle the debt, which arose from the wrongful termination of Hiddink’s contract.
The Dutchman was appointed in July 2023 on a three-year deal but left after just eight months, alleging that the Phobians unfairly ended his tenure. He subsequently lodged a complaint with FIFA, which ruled in his favour and ordered the club to compensate him.
In a letter dated August 21, 2025, FIFA’s Head of Disciplinary, Américo Espallargas, confirmed that the ban would remain in force until Hearts of Oak pays the full amount.
“A ban from registering new players internationally and nationally has been implemented on the Respondent,” the statement read.
“The registration ban will remain active until the amount due is paid and for a maximum duration of up to three entire and consecutive registration periods.”
The decision is a major setback for Hearts of Oak as they prepare for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. The restriction prevents the club from signing new players, leaving them at a disadvantage heading into the new campaign.
