Former Ghanaian World Champions honoured

President John Dramani Mahama has honoured Ghana’s former boxing world champions during the opening of the Bukom Arena in Accra yesterday.

They were presented with a plaque in recognition of their separate achievements which has brought honour to the nation.

The move according to the President, would go a long way to motivate other upcoming boxers to do well and win laurels for the country.

“I recall those moments when our stay up at night to watch our boxing heroes fight and make as proud as far as Australia,” he stated.

He added that, their exploits brought great joy to the nation and deserved to be recognized and celebrated by all.

They former champions honoured on the night included, D. K Poison, Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, Joshua Klottey, Joseph Agbeko and Alfred Kotey.

The arena which forms part of the Trust Sports Emporium would house other sporting disciplines including swimming with an Olympic side swimming pool near completion.
