GFA confirms date for Black Stars World Cup qualifier against Nigeria

The Ghana Football Association, GFA have finally announced when the Black Stars will renew their rivalry with Nigeria.

According to the GFA, The Black Stars will take on the Super Eagles at the Cape Coast stadium on Thursday, March 24 before travelling to Nigeria for the 2nd leg at the Abuja Sports stadium on Sunday, March 27, 2022.

The 1st leg encounter will be the 58th clash at senior level between the two West African countries in a rivalry spanning seven decades.

Ghana reached the play-off round after topping a qualifying pool that included South Africa, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia.

Ahead of the Nigeria encounter, the GFA have appointed Otto Addo as the Black Stars coach for the two-legged affair. with former Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton as his Technical Advisor.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the country's football governing body said others members of the new Technical team include George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani.

The Otoo Addo previously worked as a scout for the Black Stars in 2013 prior to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

The four-man team has been put together to take charge of the two matches against rivals Nigeria. 

Ghana are chasing a record 4th FIFA World Cup appearance while Nigeria seek for their 7th appearance in the competition.
