Ghana no longer has a representative in the 2025-2026 CAF Champions League in the wake of Bibiani Gold Stars’ elimination from the continental tournament.

The reigning Ghana Premier League champions lost 5-0 to Algeria side JS Kabylie in Algiers to crash out of the competition on a 7-0 loss aggregate loss.

Gold Stars lost 2-0 in Ghana in the first leg; had Gold Stars qualified to the next round, they would have been matched against Tunisian giants US Monastir.

Gold Stars trailed 2-0 at the end of the first half with Emmanuel Kobi conceding an own goal in the seventh minute and Gold Stars plight worsened when Emmanuel Ankrah was red carded in the 60th minute.

The heavy loss was Gold Stars’ first outing after sacking head coach Stephen Frimpong Manso reportedly over deep rooted differences between the veteran coach and former player and the club’s top hierarchy.

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko player and coach, Frimpong Manso, led Gold Stars to the Ghana League title in Bibiani’s second season competing in the top flight.

Gold Stars are set to announce Maxwell Konadu as its head coach this week as the club focuses on defending its league title. Gold Stars take on Swedru All Blacks at Swedru in the Ghana League on Saturday, October 4.
