The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has stated that investments in women’s football from the grassroots to the highest levels have enabled Ghana to qualify for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
He noted that the decision to support women’s football, as well as ensuring that everyone who loves the sport receives the necessary respect and recognition, is yielding results.
The GFA President said this when addressing the Black Queens upon their arrival on Thursday at the Kotoka International Airport after edging out Namibia in Pretoria for the slot.
Mr Simeon-Okraku lauded the team for holding on to its values.
“I have always said when we stay together and encourage each other in good and bad times we will come out with flying colours. The vision was to qualify and in the end, you made it and that’s why this team has a lot of attraction now. This team has gained the attention of all who matter, everyone wants to know the Black Queens and this feat is going to open doors for you as players and the younger folks who are thinking of pursuing a football career,” he said.
He noted that the team would have adequate preparations ahead of the tournament in Morocco.
“This is the time for us to give the rest of Africa a showdown. Our best position at the WAFCON was second place years ago but we have enough quality in this team to be African champions, whatever it takes for us to get you prepared for the WAFCON in Morocco with the support of Asantewaa the fearless, we will make sure this team is ready,” he said.
