Berekum Chelsea's General manager Nana Sarfo Oduro has revealed that the new Ghana Football Association administration has nothing to do with CK Akonnor's appointment as the assistant coach of the Black Stars.

Speaking to Asempa FM, the Executive Council member averred that everything regarding the former Ghana international appointment had been put in place before they took over.

"The new Ghana Football Association didn't appoint CK Akonnor as assistant coach of the Black Stars. The plan was already there before we came."

Former Asante Kotoko coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has been named the new assistant coach of senior national team of Ghana.

The 45-year-old is joining the technical team of the Black Stars as a replacement for coach Ibrahim Tanko. CK Akonnor joins the technical team to start preparations for Ghana’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ghana will host Bafana Bafana of South Africa at home on Thursday, November 14, 2019, at the Cape Coast Stadium, before travelling to São Tomé and Príncipe to face them on Monday 18th November.

Coach Akonnor was one of the coaches shortlisted for the Guinea national team job but he missed out after an interview to French coach Didier Six.

He has been without a club after parting ways with Asante Kotoko after guiding them to win the GFA Normalization Committee Special Competition.

Akonnor was crowned the Coach of the Year at the 2019 Ghana Football Awards.
