Newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has sent a clear message on merit, discipline, and fairness following his official unveiling.

The experienced Portuguese tactician stressed that no player is guaranteed a place in the national team, insisting that selection will be based strictly on performance and commitment.

“Nobody owns the national team shirt. It’s my job to give a fair opportunity. It’s my job that the ones that wear the jersey truly deserve it,” Queiroz said.

His remarks come amid ongoing concerns about player selection and consistency within the team. By emphasising merit and competition, the new coach is signaling a shift toward a more transparent and performance-driven system.

Queiroz, who has managed top clubs and national teams including Real Madrid and Portugal, is expected to bring structure and discipline to the squad as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His approach is likely to resonate with fans who have called for greater accountability, as it opens the door for emerging talents while pushing established players to maintain high standards.

The coach also highlighted the importance of competition within the squad, noting that every training session and match will serve as an opportunity for players to prove themselves.
