Uruguay thump host nation Russia by 3-0 to top group A in the Russia 2018 world cup.
Uruguay were too strong for the host, Russia,in the end and a 3-0 victory ensures La Celeste advance to the round of 16 with a 100% record from the group stages. The host nation struggled to deal with Uruguay's two star strikers.
It took Uruguay 10 munites to break the deadlock courtesy Luis Suarez Alberto Diaz who scored a fantastic freekick at the edge of the 18-yard box after Gazinskiy clatters into Bentancur.
Suarez steps up and struck a fantastic free-kick into the bottom right-hand corner, beyond the reach of the Russian goalkeeper.
A few munites later, the La Celeste doubled their lead. A corner was headed away only for Laxalt, to make an effort towards Akinfeev's goal that took a major deflection off Cheryshev, who unfortunately is credited with the own goal.
The scoreline enabled Russia commit more men forward which unfortunately on their path , allowed the Uruguays to play on the break.
Things got worse for the host as they went a man down after Smolnikov lunged in on Laxalt and earns a second yellow card.
The red card made the game look so easy for the La Celeste as they added a third through Edinson Cavani who finally gets his first goal of the tournament.
A corner was whipped into the box ,Godin rose highest to head at goal. Akinfeev made a strong save but Cavani is there to away the rebound.
