Spartak Moscow to be expelled from the Europa League

Spartak Moscow are set to be expelled from the Europa League by UEFA, with RB Leipzig the beneficiaries.

The Russian side were due to face Bundesliga club in the competition’s round of 16, however, UEFA has come under increasing pressure to kick the club out of the tournament following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The first leg of the tie was scheduled for March 10, with the return leg due to be played on March 17.

Georgina Ayisha Aoyem named new Black Maidens captain

The Technical team of the Women’s U-17 team - the Black Maidens led by Baba Nuhu has handed leadership roles to five (5) players ahead of the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup qualifiers.

Georgina Ayisha Aoyem of Pearlpia Ladies has been named as the substantive captain of the team upon broader consultation.

The young-lanky midfielder has been an embodiment of discipline, self-respect, confidence and humble throughout the teams camping in Prampram.
 

Samuel Boadu slams Hearts of Oak's 'fundamental' errors

Hearts of Oak coach Hearts of Oak has slammed his side's "fundamental errors" against Legon Cities and called for a big improvement going forward.

After taking the lead on Saturday through Isaac Mensah in the 12th, the Phobians failed to kill the game as they failed to connect the numerous chances that came their way.

Legon Cities upped their game in the second and got rewarded in added time. Osman Amadu who was brought in for Hamza Nasiru in the 68th minute netted the equalizer inside the 92nd minute to break the heart of the away fans who were raring for their first win in 4 matches – having gone winless since January 30.

It is injustice to judge coaches by results - Karim Zito

Deams FC Technical Director Karim Zito believes blames should be apportioned to players and not only coaches if results turn out unfavourable.

Zito, who doubles as the coach of the Black Satellites expressed his disappointment in his players for failing to get a good result over the weekend.

His comments come on the back of Dreams FC defeat to Asante Kotoko on Sunday. Zito who was in the dugout as the head coach due to the sacking of Vladislav Viric believes players must start taking responsibilities.
 

Ukraine crisis: FIFA orders Russia not to compete under national flag

FIFA has told Russia to complete their upcoming games in neutral territory under the name the Football Union of Russia without their flag and anthem following the invasion of Ukraine.

Several nations have announced they will refuse to play Russia, including England and Wales, as well as Poland, the Czech Republic and Sweden.

World Cup 2022 play-offs would see Russia face Poland before facing either the Czech Republic or Sweden if they win - and are scheduled to be played in March.

Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a military invasion of neighbouring Ukraine on Thursday.

Dreams FC Technical Director Abdul Karim Zito says he is disappointed in his players for failing to beat Asante Kotoko on Sunday.

The Still Believes lads got beat 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium following Frank Etouga 's brace on matchday 18 of the Ghana Premier League.

Cameroonian import Mbella Etouga Franch Thierry got the opening goal for the Porcupine Warriors in the 74th minute after a converted a spot-kick.

Etouga was brought down inside the box by goalkeeper Augustine Koomson and he scored from the resulting kick.

Etouga netted his second goal on the day which doubled Kotoko's advantage in the 82nd minute.

Speaking after the game, Zito said the scoreline wasn't a true reflection of what happened on the pitch.
