U-23 AFCON: Fred Achie appointed leader of delegation for Black Meteors

The Ghana Football Association has appointed Executive Council member Frederick Acheampong popularly called Fred Achie as the leader of delegation for the Black Meteors at the CAF U-23 AFCON in Egypt.

The role was given to the vibrant football administrator on Wednesday and he is currently in Cairo to oversee the affairs of the team in the final hours of preparation.

Fred Acheampong will be in charge of the day-to-day management and welfare of the team.

The Black Meteors left Ghana on Monday to Egypt for the tournament which starts on Friday and has been preparing earnestly for the competition.

Ghana opens her campaign against Cameroon on Friday, November 8 at the Cairo International Stadium at 8:00 pm, before facing Egypt and Mali on 11 and 14 November respectively.

Ibrahim Tanko for the first time trained with the full complement of his team after the late-arrival of FC Utrecht striker Issah Abbas and the team will have their last training later tonight at Cairo International Stadium ahead of the Friday's opener.

The top three finishers at the final tournament will qualify to represent Africa at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. 

Ghana is seeking a return to the competition since its last appearance in 2004 in the Athens Olympic Games.
