The curtains were drawn last Sunday on this season’s the Ghana Premier League with Wa All Stars crowned champions for the first time in the history of the club.
The Northerners were presented with a sparkling Premier League Trophy in Sekondi after their last game with relegated Hasaacas.
Though the champions surprisingly lost 3-0 to Hasaacas on final day, their excitement and jubilations were not affected as they it was all wild cheers from supporters of the club doing the presentation ceremony.
That was certainly reflective of a club that has made history as the first club from the northern part of Ghana to win the Ghana Premier League.
All Stars would also represent the country in next year’s CAF Champions League with hopes of making another history at the continental stage.
There were also individual players who made it count on final day to walk away with some glory as Liberty Professionals star Latif Blessing won the Ghana Premier League Goal King title after hitting a hat trick on final day.
Blessing finished the league with 17 goals while his closest contenders, Yahaya Mohammed of Aduana Stars and Medeama’s Kweku Donsu netted 15 goals.
It was also a sad day for Techiman City who were also relegated after losing 4-0 to regional rivals Berekum Chelsea.
They have been thrown back into lower division after just a season at the top flight and would be joined by already relegated New Edubiase United and Hasaacas.
Medeama SC following a 3-3 draw with AshantiGold secured a top four spot to move Kumasi Asante Kotoko to the fifth position while Accra Hearts of Oak also defeated New Edubiase 3-1 for the third position behind Aduana Stars.
