Black Stars B coach Maxwell Konadu has been crowned coach of the tournament at the just ended WAFU 2019 Cup of Nations.

The former Asante Kotoko coach beat off competition from Senegal manager Seringne Saliou Dia to the coveted award.

Konadu led his charges to the finals of the competition where they lost to hosts Senegal 3-1 on penalties following a 1-1 scoreline after extra time.

A result that saw Ghana failing to win the trophy for the third time after successful triumph in 2013 and 2017 all on home soil.

Konadu is not the only Ghanaian who has won an award at the tournament. Black Stars B and AshantiGold striker Shafiu Mumumi also won the goal king of the tournament with 4 goals.

Shafiu Mumumi triumph follows that of countryman Stephen Sarfo who won the goal king award in the 2017 tournament.

The 24-year-old his account at the just-ended tournament against Burkina Faso before scoring all three goals for Black Stars B in their 3-1 triumph over Cote D’Ivoire in the semi-finals to book a place in the finals and also making him the first-ever player to do so.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars B are in camp preparing for the return leg of the CHAN qualifier against Burkina Faso on October 20.

Ghana lost the first leg by a goal to nil at the Accra Sports Stadium and must play above themselves if they are bent on booking qualification to the 6TH edition of the biennial football tournament.

The Black Stars B has been absent for two consecutive editions of the CHAN tournament.
