WAFU 2019: Shafiu Mumuni's hat-trick sends Ghana into final

A fantastic hat trick by Shafiu Mumuni ensured Ghana's dream of retaining the WAFU trophy is still on course as they have made it to the grand finale.

The 2017 champions defeated the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire 3-0 at the Stade Lat Dior in the semi-final to make another final appearance.

The Elephants started the game the better of the two sides and nearly took the lead in the third minute but it had to take the intervention of defender Mohammed Alhassan to stop the attacker from striking the ball.

Ghana took control of the game from the 20th minute and it didn't take long before skipper of the side Shafiu Mumuni broke the deadlock of the game to as the first half ended 1-0.

The Black Stars B continued from where they left off and doubled their lead just seconds after the restart of the game courtesy Shafiu Mumuni again to take his tally in the to three goals.

He headed home a cross from Augustine Okrah to put Ghana in the driving seat.

The AshantiGold striker Shafiu bagged his hat-trick 4 minutes later to take the match ball home as he leads the scoring chart with 4 goals. He once again met a cross with a powerful header from the left wing by Latif Anabila,  becoming the first player in history to score a hat-trick at any tournament.

Aboubakari Doumbia reduced the deficit for the Ivorians in the 77th minute from a free kick after goalkeeper Eric Ofori failed to made the most out of it.

The goal is his third of the tournament one shy of top scorer Shafiu Mumuni.

Despite the pressure from the Elephants in the dying embers of the game, Ghana held onto the lead as they made it to the grand finale to be played on Sunday.
