The Black Stars quest to make a return to the World Cup is still on course after overcoming Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Sunday in the qualifiers.

The West African nation recovered from the 1-1 setback against Ethiopia to beat Bafana Bafana 1-0 which was enough to see them progress to the next stage of the qualifiers.

Ghana qualified at South Africa expense due to their superior goal scored margin (+7 while South Africa +6) after both sides were tied on 13 points and same goal difference of +4 margin.

The Black Stars started the game on the front foot searching for the all-important first goal to unsettle the South Africans.

The four-time AFCON winners suffered a massive blow when Kudus Mohammed got injured within 10 minutes and was replaced by Daniel Kyereh.

Jordan Ayew and Daniel Kofi Kyereh had the best of chances to give the Black Stars an early lead but they all fluffed the lines.

Andre Ayew put Ghana ahead in the 33rd minute after Daniel Amartey was adjudged to have been brought down inside the box.

The captain made no mistake from the resulting kick as he sent the keeper the wrong way on his 100th cap for the Black Stars.

The first half ended 1-0 in favour of Ghana. After the recess, the Bafana Bafana opened up their game in search of a goal that will take them through to the next stage.

This strategy allowed Ghana to get enough chances only that the latter failed to convert them.

Kamaldeen Suleman failed to pick his spot and double Ghana's lead after he was left to score from an empty net.

With 90 minutes reached, the referee brought proceedings to an end at the Cape Coast Stadium.

The Black Stars have joined the likes of Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, Mali among others who have qualified to the playoffs to kick start next year in March.
