The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the GH₵7.5 million armed robbery that occurred at a jewellery shop in Adabraka on November 2, 2024.

The suspect, identified as Ali Mohammed, alias Bawasam, was picked up on November 20, 2025, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Ashaiman, officials said.

Briefing journalists in Accra on Wednesday, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, said the arrest marks a major step forward in ongoing efforts to resolve the case.

She said preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect, together with other accomplices still at large, allegedly intercepted a vehicle transporting proceeds from a jewellery sale to a bank.

The group, reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles, fired several shots to ward off bystanders, injuring the driver before escaping with the money.

DCOP Donkor noted that a manhunt has been launched for the remaining suspects, adding that the police are working to recover the stolen funds.

She encouraged members of the public with relevant information to contact the nearest police station to assist in the investigations.
