The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has directed Mobile Money Fintech Limited (MMFL) to suspend the implementation of its proposed 0.75 percent fee on direct wallet-to-bank transfers pending further consultations.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the Central Bank said the charge, which was scheduled to take effect on June 1, 2026, has been put on hold to allow for additional stakeholder engagement.
“The Bank of Ghana informs the public that Mobile Money Fintech Limited (MMFL) has been directed to pause the implementation of its proposed 0.75 percent fee on direct wallet-to-bank transfers,” the statement said.
According to the BoG, the decision reflects its commitment to ensuring that any changes to charges within the mobile financial services ecosystem are introduced fairly and in a manner that protects consumers.
The Central Bank added that the move is also aimed at supporting the financial wellbeing of users of mobile money and digital financial services in Ghana.
Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana, on May 25, 2026, announced new charges on transfers from Mobile Money (MoMo) wallets to bank accounts, effective June 1, 2026.
In a text message sent to customers on Monday, MTN said transfers from MoMo wallets to bank accounts will now attract a fee of 0.75 percent per transaction, capped at GHS 5.
According to MTN, the move "will help us continue to serve you better."
