The United States embassy in Ghana has hailed young Ghanaian actor Abraham Attah after he picked up another award and presented an award at the Oscars over the weekend.

He was named best male lead at the 31st Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday 27th February 2016.

The actor, who is 15 years old, beat out fellow actors Ben Mendelsohn (Mississippi Grind), Christopher Abbott (James White), Jason Segel (The End of the Tour) and Koudous Seihon (Mediterranea) for the honour.

Attah won the best actor prize for his portrayal of a child soldier in the Netflix drama “Beasts of No Nation” — his first acting role.

Attah later presented the award for Best Live Action Short Film at the 88 Oscars on February 28, 2016 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood, California.

The embassy posted on its Facebook wall on Monday 29th February, 2016: “Great weekend for Ghana's Abraham Attah! He picked up the Best Male Lead award at Film Independent's 2016 Spirit Awards for his role in Beasts of No Nation and presented an Oscar at the 88th Academy Awards.”
