An 18-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a security officer at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge.
The incident occurred around 7:28 pm on Tuesday, February 18, 2026, at the hospital’s Labour Ward.
According to a statement issued by the hospital’s management, the suspect, identified as Gabriel Dimson, who had accompanied his mother and a friend to the hospital, allegedly attacked the officer.
Dimson had been instructed to move to the reception area because visitors are not allowed to linger near the ward entrance outside approved visiting hours.
He reportedly ignored the directive, pushed the officer to the ground, and physically assaulted him, causing the officer to lose consciousness.
Medical staff on duty intervened immediately. The officer remains hospitalized but is responding to treatment.
The matter was reported to the Ghana Police Service at the Adabraka District Police Command. The suspect has since been arrested, and police are assisting with investigations and subsequent prosecution.
Management of the hospital condemned the incident, stating that it will not tolerate any form of violence against its staff.
“Our security officers play a critical role in enforcing hospital policies designed to protect patients, visitors, and healthcare workers,” the statement said.
The hospital also urged the public to cooperate with staff and comply with established guidelines, including visiting protocols, to ensure a safe and orderly healthcare environment.
