President Nana Akufo-Addo has axed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) Gideon Aryeequaye barely three months after he was appointed.

In a letter dated January 24, 2017 Mr Aryeequaye was directed to, with immediate effect, step down and handover to the Minister-designate for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku.

"In view of the urgency attached to the matter, please ensure that you handover and cease to act as Chief Executive of the Ghana Tourism Authority not later than 5:00pm on January 26, 2017," the letter said.

He was also asked to proceed to claim any terminal benefit due him relevant under the law.

A widely known broadcaster before he entered into politics, Mr Aryeequaye was appointed by ex-president John Mahama in October 2016 after a stint as the Deputy Managing Director of the Ghana Tourism Development Company.
