AMA to launch 125th anniversary activities on August 15

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will launch a month-long activity on August 15, 2023 to celebrate its 125th anniversary.

Activities earmarked for the anniversary which is on the theme: “Celebrating 125 Years of Local Governance: Strengthening Community Resilience and Sustainable Development in the City of Accra include awards night, symposiums, anniversary projects and clothes, clean-up exercises, health screening, Junior High School (J.H.S) quiz campaigns, electoral areas sanitation challenge, cultural displays, food bazaar and sports festivals among other things.

This was disclosed on Tuesday at a staff durbar organised by the Human Resources Department to among other things elect new interim executives for the AMA’s Welfare Committee and train staff on the local government protocols as well as preparation for promotion.

Speaking during the durbar, the Chief Executive of AMA, Hon Elizabeth Sackey, said the Assembly would enhance its monitoring mechanisms to track the punctuality of staff while improving productivity.

Touching on revenue mobilization she stressed measures were being put in place to digitize collection whilst providing strict measures to prevent leakages.

Hon Sackey expressed dissatisfaction over the recent decline in revenue generated from the markets and directed all revenue collectors to step up their work to ensure that the Assembly meets its revenue target.

She advised the staff of the Assembly to work with integrity, be watchdogs over AMA issues, ensure a good rapport is established between clients and cultivate a positive attitude towards work. to improve productivity.

In a remark, the newly appointed Coordinating Director of the AMA, Mr Douglas N.K Annoful encouraged staff to be good ambassadors of the Assembly and respond promptly to duties assigned to them to avoid delay.

He urged staff to give timely responses and feedback to their immediate supervisors to avoid delay, to ensure that pertinent issues receive the necessary redress at the right time.

On noise making, he appealed to the totality of staff at the durbar to maintain a serene environment and avoid activities that would disrupt the tone of work at the various departments and offices of the Assembly.

The durbar was also used to outdoor three new departmental heads at the AMA. They are the Metro Coordinating Director – Mr Douglas N.K Annoful, Finance Director – Mr Abeiku Amissah, Agric Director –Mr.Kodwo Fynn.
