Police have arrested a man accused of conspiring to commit a robbery targeting a gold miner in the Ashanti Region, authorities said.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command said Stephen Kwakye was taken into custody on 30 December 2025 in connection with a planned attack on a miner transporting gold from Manso Abrense near Manso Nsiana to Kumasi for sale.
Preliminary investigations indicated Kwakye played a central role in planning the robbery, including tracking the victim’s movements and coordinating with accomplices to intercept him during transit.
Police said the suspect was arrested after he attempted to collect his share of the alleged proceeds, following a tip-off that the operation had been carried out.
During questioning, he reportedly admitted to organising the robbery.
Kwakye remains in police custody as investigations continue, and authorities are working to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the plot.
