The final funeral rites for Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III have commenced at the Manhyia Palace, where the late queen mother lies in state.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, filed past the remains of his traditional mother, accompanied by Nananom. Members of the public also paid their respects to the Queen, who lay in repose at Manhyia Palace.
The solemn observances, known in Ashanti tradition as Dɔte Yie, began on Monday with Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II formally opening the viewing of his sister’s remains. Royals, family members, and the public are filing past to pay their respects.
The ceremonies will continue through Thursday, with thousands of mourners expected to converge on Kumasi, the historic seat of the Ashanti Kingdom, to honour the life and legacy of the revered queen mother.
