The newborn baby stolen from the Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra has been found and safely reunited with its mother.
A female suspect is now in custody of the Dansoman Police unit while investigations continue.
Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, confirmed the development during a media briefing after visiting the facility, describing the recovery as welcome news for both the family and the country.
“The good news is that we’ve found the baby,” she said. “We want to say a big thank you to the whistleblower and the police for acting swiftly to reunite the baby with the mother.”
Dr Lartey also commended the Members of Parliament for Ablekuma South and Ablekuma West, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije and Rev. Kweku Addo, for their quick response following the incident.
The alleged abduction prompted an immediate reaction from the Ghana Police Service after hospital authorities and the child’s family filed a report. A search operation was launched, leading to the baby’s recovery within a short time.
Mr Vanderpuije played a key coordinating role between the police, community members and the family. He later accompanied officials to the Mamprobi Polyclinic to witness the baby’s reunion with the mother.
Upon the infant’s return, medical staff conducted thorough checks. Doctors have confirmed the baby is stable, receiving care and being closely monitored as a precaution.
