Some cocoa farmers in the country are calling on government to cut down the salary of the Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD.

The cocoa farmers at Duakon, near Akim-Aperade in the Eastern Region, have stated that with the current economic challenges facing the country,a CEO should not take home 75,000.00 Ghana cedis which will further cripple the economy.

Speaking at a farmers meeting in Duakon, the spokesperson for the farmers Nana Twumasi Owuyah emphasized the need for government to cut down the salary of the boss of COCOBOD.

“If one person is collecting as much as GH¢75,000.00 which is equivalent to seven hundred and fifty million old Ghana Cedis a month as salary, then the nation is in serious trouble.”

“This is a clear testimony that, millions of Cocoa farmers in the country are working tirelessly for only a few fortunate people in the society to enjoy the fruit of their labour, while the actual producers of this ‘golden plant’ continue to wallow in abject poverty", he added.

He further advised government to take similar actions against Chief Executive Officers of other state institutions and establishments who enjoy huge salaries to the detriment of the country’s ailing economy.
