The Ghana First Patriotic front, a group that led a massive demonstration against the Ghana-US defence deal last week, has hinted it will embark on more protests in two weeks.

Convener for the Ghana First Patriotic Front, Edem Agbana has revealed that its members are preparing to go back to the streets for another mammoth demonstration.

“Akufo-Addo failed to address the concerns that we’ve raised…he was supposed to have withdrawn the agreement and address the specific articles that we have challenges with. We’re resuming our regional demonstration in Tamale two weeks time; next week we have a public forum. We will continue to let Ghanaians understand the agreement and how dangerous it is to the interest of Ghana.” he said in an interview.

President Akufo-Addo broke his silence on the controversial US defence deal, in an address to the nation on Thursday, April 5th, 2018.

Prior to that, many critics of the US defence deal, especially the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), argued that government has sold the sovereignty of the nation for $20million to allow the Americans set up a military base in the country.

However, the President in his address said, “Fellow Ghanaians let me conclude by saying how outraged I am by the defamatory comments of my political opponents some of whose patriotism can be so easily questioned that the sovereignty of this country has been sold by my government and myself. I’ll never be the president that will compromise or sell the sovereignty of our country. I respect deeply the memory of the great patriots who sacrificed and toiled and brought about our independence and freedom.”
