Gov't imposes curfew on Nkwanta township after shooting incident

Eight persons have been confirmed dead in the shooting incident that occurred in Nkwanta in the Oti Region on Tuesday, November 21, the Oti Regional Minister, Joshua Gmayenaam Makubu has confirmed.

The shooting incident has resulted in the Minister for the Interior Ambrose Dery imposing a curfew on the town. 

The curfew, as announced in a release took effect on Tuesday, November 21 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am.

The Minister also placed a ban on all persons in Nkwanta township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons.

The Minister said any persons found with any arms or ammunition would be arrested and prosecuted.

An assailant was reported to have opened fire at the central market area in the town on Tuesday, November 21.

The Oti Regional Security Council deployed personnel to the area to bring the situation under control.
