The Ghana Grid Company LTD (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana have attributed a power outage that affected several parts of the country to a tipper truck accident.

According to a joint statement by GRIDCo and ECG, the incident occurred at 1:42 pm on Thursday, May 1, 2025, when a tipper truck discharging stones at a construction site near the Nkawkaw-Konongo Transmission Line lifted its bucket into the line conductor, causing damage.

The power outage affected the Western, Central, and Northern regions, as well as some areas in Accra.

It noted that engineers had mobilised to the location to repair the damaged transmission line and work was on-going to restore all affected areas by 6 pm on Thursday.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this incident has caused,” the statement read, assuring the public that work is ongoing to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
