The Financial and Tax Court of the Accra High Court presided over Justice Georgina Mensah Datsa has ordered the confiscation of a property the state identified as proceeds of drug convict Nayele Ametefe’s criminal activities.

After investigations, the State presented two properties, one in Kumasi and the other at East Legon in Accra.

Pronouncing a short Judgment, the Presiding Judge stated that only the East Legon Property should be confiscated because there is no evidence to prove that the jailed Nayele is the owner of the one in Kumasi.

The East Legon property, estimated at $1.6 million, will be sold and the revenue derived will be distributed as follows; 50% Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), 20% to Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO),15% to the Consolidated fund and 15% to the Judicial Service of Ghana.

The sharing is in accordance with section 66 of Act 804, the Economic and Organized Crime Office Act, 2010.

33-year-old, Nayele Ametefe who pleaded guilty to carrying 12 kilos of cocaine to the United Kingdom, was sentenced by the Isleworth Crown Court in London in January 2015 to 8 years, 8months in prison.

The latest confiscation comes weeks after some of her confiscated assets including luxury furniture and home fittings were donated to some rehabilitation centers.
