The Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has called on the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to as a matter of urgency, close Midlands Savings and Loans.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP said suspension of the staff alone is not the solution since what they did is tantamount to murder.

A police officer on duty at the Shiashie branch of the Midlands Savings and Loans, Lance Corporal Godzi Frederick Amanor on Thursday brutalized a 36-year-old Patience Sarfo, who had gone there to withdraw her GHS270.

Lance Corporal Amanor was subsequently arrested on orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, for investigations and possible prosecution.

Management of Midland Savings and Loans has since apologize and promised to compensate the victim.

The five staff who were on duty at the time of the brutalities on the woman have been suspended.

Commenting on the brutalities on Adom TV’s Morning Show “Badwam” on Tuesday, monitored by PrimeNewsGhana, Ken Agyapong said savings and loans in the country are taken their customers for granted, citing the DKM saga as one of the example.

“These small microfinance and saving and loans are just there to deceive customers and when they start going for their monies, then they begin to assault them. Ghanaians will never learn even from the DKM saga and I’m shocked”, he said.
