The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has warned it will take legal action against landlords who have converted toilet facilities into rooms for rent.

Mayor for Kumasi, Osei Asibey Antwi, said the Assembly has started the enforcement of the sanitation by-laws and will not tolerate such recalcitrant attitude in the metropolis.

According to him, the Assembly has started public education and sensitisation on sanitation and the need for every household to get a toilet facility, adding it is the responsibility of every landlord to provide tenants with proper toilet and bath facilities.

The mayor emphasised that conversion of toilet facilities into rooms for rent infringes on the Assembly's by-laws which will be implemented to the letter.

To enhance sanitation in the metropolis, Mr Antwi revealed plans to demolish all dilapidated public toilet facilities for the construction of new facilities. This is part of the Assembly's strategies to make Kumasi one of the best cities in Africa.
