The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has launched the Long-term National Development Perspective Framework (LTNDPF) otherwise, referred to as Vision 2057, which outlines a comprehensive vision for Ghana’s development at a time where Ghana would be celebrating her Centenary Anniversary of Independence.
The Development Framework prescribes to every government the development over the period the document spans.
In other words, the LTNDPF is a vision document that reflects the development aspirations of every Ghanaian from which current and future medium development plans will be derived.
The much anticipated launch of the framework saw the light of day on May 28, 2024 at the Cedi Conference Centre within the heart of the University of Ghana, Legon.
In attendance for the launch were key stakeholders, ranging from members of the judicial service, educationists, members from the business community, politicians and representatives from the private sector and the head of the civil services of Ghana, amongst others.
Addressing the audience at the launch, Kodjo Esseim Mensah-Abrampa, PhD, beckoned on all stakeholders and cooperate Ghana, especially the youth to embrace the initiative from the NDPC in order to move Ghana to Secondary economic state.
“Indeed this picks up the major headlines and also incorporated certain ideas at the Ghana at 100 and therefore there was a need to look at all this. It became even more pertinent when the Covid issue came up, the conflicts, the issue of responding to disasters and the others. We thought of looking at it in quite a comprehensive manner in coming out with goals, objectives and some proposed strategies but more importantly the results because that was what we saw from the Ghana at 100 that was very merry-much appreciated by citizen, the results that are expected so that they can hold government accountable at any given time,” he said.
The Director-General of the GNPDC stated that in the new document, there are key areas of emphasis which are made of goals, representing the vision of the country, adding that, there have been extensive engagements with all agencies at all levels.
Dr. Mensah-Abrampa said, “The good thing about this initiative is that, after every quarter, we receive report from every district, ministry, department and agency in this country and the report embraces not only the public sector but also include the functioning of the private sector, the business communities and others.”
“So we have goals and these represent what we want to attain in 2057. The Vision of the Framework is to see Ghana as a prosperous, self-reliant, resilient nation with a strong emphasis on economic growth, social development, and environmental sustainability.”
The Vision 2057 emphasises inclusivity, sustainability, and good governance which are necessary tools to propel the transformation that the vision seeks to have when Ghana is 100.
Successfully attaining the vision and goals, according to the Director-General of NDPC, requires that key factors be prevalent to propel significant and fundamentals changes within Ghana, as captured by the Vision 2025 booklet.
