Some Asawase constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have today December 4, 2018, picked up nomination forms for former President John Mahama as he bids to lead the party in the 2020 general elections.

A cheque of 20,000 cedis was presented to the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

Already, Mr Mahama is said to have received pledges amounting to about GHȼ500,000 in support of his campaign whilst other contestants in the race, are complaining that the GHȼ20,000 cost for the nomination form and the GHȼ400,000 filing fee was on the higher side.

Before taking the cheque, the General Secretary said he would not give out the forms if it was paid for by the constituency executives.

”To purchase the form on behalf of the constituency structure would be wrong...I want the clarification to be made. If it is the constituency Asawase that is buying, we cannot sell to you as a constituency.”

Asiedu Nketia said this is to ensure that the constituency does not take a position for John Mahama and make the place a no-go area for other candidates.

Former MCE for Asokore Mampong, Alhaji Nurudeen Hamidan explained on behalf of the executives, party members in the constituency contributed to buy the form.

“For certain reasons, we will not be able to mention one or two names. But it is not party resources. It is not coming from constituency office,” he said.

The form is expected to be presented to Mahama and he has a minimum of 10 days to fill and file.

All male flag bearer aspirants of the NDC are to pay GH₵400,000 while female aspirants (so far none has declared interest) are to pay GHȻ200,000 while persons with disability aspiring to the same position are to pay GH₵150,000.
