The Ghana Police Service has urged final-year students sitting for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to celebrate responsibly and refrain from engaging in unlawful activities as they complete their examinations today, Friday, June 19, 2026.

In a statement issued ahead of the conclusion of the examinations, the Service called on candidates nationwide to remain disciplined and law-abiding while marking the end of their secondary school education.

The police warned that acts of violence, vandalism, arson, assault, and other criminal conduct could have serious consequences, potentially undermining students’ academic achievements and future prospects.

“The service reminds students that acts of violence, vandalism, arson, assault, and any other unlawful conduct carry serious criminal consequences that can permanently jeopardise their futures and derail the academic careers they have worked hard to build,” the statement said.

“The police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any student found engaging in such conduct.”

The caution comes in the wake of two recent incidents involving students in the Upper East Region.

At Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were arrested for allegedly setting fire to a teacher’s apartment. In a separate incident at Bawku Senior High School, four students were arrested in connection with rioting, assaulting school staff and destroying both school and private property.

The police said the incidents underscore the need for students to exercise restraint and celebrate their achievements peacefully.

The service further appealed to parents, guardians, and school authorities to support efforts to promote discipline, respect, and responsible behaviour during and after the examination period.

The Ghana Police Service encouraged all candidates to celebrate the completion of their examinations in a manner that reflects positively on their schools and safeguards their future aspirations.
