Cantonment Police in Accra has found a gun and ammunition concealed in a packaged food for an inmate.

According to the police, "A young lady aged about 23years with Nigerian accent came to the charge office with two packs of fried rice labelled with Papaye logo, to be served on one Asuquo Mbuotidem Edem Faith, a Nigerian remand prisoner in cantonment cells who was brought in by anti armed robbery unit of the CID headquarters to be detained in cells for various offences of robbery".

But when the food was carefully inspected, a locally manufactured pistol with one AA cartridge was found concealed in one of the packs with the food covering it.

Before the counter NCO could arrest the suspect, the lady/suspect vanished from the station. However, with the help of the CCTV footage at the charge office, strenuous efforts are underway to trace the suspect for action.

The locally manufactured pistol and the cartridge have been retained as exhibits.
