Northern Regional Police have begun investigations into the circumstances under which some suspected armed robbers broke into a police armoury at Daboya in the North Gonja District and made away with some weapons.

The suspects on Saturday stole two AK 47 rifles and a shotgun from the Police Station.

It is, however, unclear the whereabouts of the officer on duty on the day of the crime. Some reports have indicated that the officer on duty had gone home to rest claiming he was ill.

The officer on duty has however been relieved of his duties and is being investigated.

DSP Mohammed Tanko, the Northern Regional police PRO, who confirmed the incident to Citi News monitored by Prime News Ghana said police in the area have been put on high alert to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime.

“We are also investigating to find out how the robbers got there. Whether the policeman who was on duty was there or was asleep, or didn’t attend to duty at all or he left briefly and this happened''.

Officers of Damango and also Daboya received directives from the Regional Commander to ensure that they strengthen security around the area especially on the highways so that in case the perpetrators want to use the weapons on unsuspecting members of the public, the police will be able to thwart them.
