The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso North Yussif Jajah has called on Minister for Works and Housing Samuel Atta Akyea to apologize to the residents of Nima over his comments that the residents will experience a facelift and will start flushing toilet for the first time.

This follows a debate on the President's State of Nation Address in Parliament yesterday, February 27.

Minister for works and Housing Samuel Atta Akyea stated that Nima for the first time will have access to flushing toilet facilities as part of the government's agenda to give them a facelift.

Mr. Jajah took a strong exception to the statement of the Housing Minister, Yussif said is inaccurate and the inhabitants of Nima demand an apology from the Minister

According to Yussif ''Honourable Atta Akyea made a comment about Nima which to be frank am not happy. He categorically stated, Nima is going to experience a facelift and very soon for the first time Nima will have a flushing toilet '' for me this is an insult to the people of Nima''.

''Most of the people of the Nima community have flushing toilets and most of the public toilet have flushing water closets in them. Lastly, the President mentioned last week he is proud to live in Nima, does it mean the President staying in that community does not have a flushing toilet? Me staying there too I don't have ? for me this is an insult to the Nima community and we demand an apology from him, we cannot accept this. He should withdraw his statement''.

Meanwhile, the Works and Housing Minister, responding to the Ayawaso MP said: ''The decency of what we are going to do which is called slum upgrading should give them all the amenities you find in an East Legon house. When you enter the East Legon house you will not find the kind of situation the Nima people are facing. The President created a Ministry called Inner city and Zongo development and it starts with Nima. We will give Nima a facelift."

''I owe the MP no apology if he does not want Nima to have the facility in East Legon then he hates Ghana and it's pathetic. If he wants Nima to be in filth he should go and tell them. The Akufo Addo government wants to upgrade Nima and make it a modern place for people to enjoy".
