Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye has called on the security agencies to increase security on the borders of Ghana to help protect citizens.

According to Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye, there is a need for strict border rules despite the open border policy.

The Speaker of Parliament said the implementation of the Open Border Policy which is to eliminate the various issues that frustrate the free movement of persons, goods and services has given the opportunity to some individuals to come into the country for criminal reasons.

Speaking at the signing of an MOU between the various security agencies on integrated border management, the Speaker of Parliament said, “people, however, are taking advantage of this noble open border policy and use it as a launching pad to disturb the country and the sub-region at large.”

Similar calls have been made by some Ghanaians after news broke that some three girls in the Western Region have been kidnapped for a ransom.
