The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a violent clash that disrupted the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru, Central Region, on February 19.

What was intended as a celebration of student sporting talent reportedly turned chaotic after a dispute broke out between athletes from two competing schools.

The confrontation involved students from Obrachire Senior High Technical School and Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS), escalating quickly into a physical fight.

During the unrest, a student from Obrachire was allegedly attacked by a group believed to be affiliated with SWESBUS. He was reportedly beaten with sticks and pelted with stones before bystanders intervened to bring the situation under control.

Footage circulating on social media shows the confusion at the scene, with a crowd gathered around the injured student in the aftermath of the clash. The student was subsequently taken to a medical facility and is currently receiving treatment.

In response, the police condemned the violence and assured the public that those involved would be identified and held accountable under the law.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances that led to the disturbance.
