The University of Professional Studies, Accra has begun an Actuarial Science course at the university aimed at equipping students to attend to industry related matters.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Joshua Alabi explained since the university is not an academic but a professional one there was the need to introduce courses which will generate the right caliber of personnel to meet demands of industry.
BSC in Actuarial Science will cover topics including Financial Risk Management, Insurance and Pension Management.
30 students constitute the first batch of course members.
Actuarial science is the discipline that applies mathematical and statistical methods to assess risk in insurance, finance and other industries and professions. Actuaries are professionals who are qualified in this field through intense education and experience.
