Deputy Finance Minister nominee,Kwaku Agyeman Kwarteng has said, it will be important for Ghanaians to shift focus from the number of Ministers named by President Nana Akufo-Addo and rather pay attention to his cost-cutting measures.

The President has been criticized for the arguably unprecedented huge number of ministers he is expected to work with in order to achieve his objectives for the country.

But appearing before the Appointment Committee of Parliament, Mr. Kwarteng said, the number of people in government cannot actually determine the amount of money to be spent if cost-cutting measures are put in place.

Though he admitted that it is logical for people to suggest that the number of Ministers would have a huge cost effect on the country, he said, they should also consider the roles of the Ministers and other cost-cutting measures that would be put in place.

He stated that, the 110 ministers would be working in various capacities to move the country forward aside considering the cost it would have on the country.

He lauded the President's initiative to stop the purchase of new vehicles for government officials as a measure to cut cost in his administration.

"This is part of the moves by the President to ensure that cost-cutting measures are employed in his administration across all sectors,"he stated.

Mr. Kwarteng added that, other measures would be put in place to ensure that the country is not drained financially due to the number of ministers in government.
